Last week two children in Edmonton spearheaded a campaign to raise funds through their elementary schools to fund education for the Himalayan children in Tsum, far away in the mountains of Nepal. They raised over $300!

Nangsal Lama is on her way to Quest with generous funding from VVF supporters!!
Thank you to everyone who helped with providing Nangsal with lodging at Quest University in Squamish, BC. She hopes to learn about sustainable food production and agriculture and forestry to assist her remote village home in the Himalayas, a seven-day walk from Kathmandu.

Shirley Blair, director of SMD Boarding School in Nepal, met twice with interested people in Vancouver, showing her new slide show of the school and updating everyone on life at SMD. Ben Soneff is only eight years old but he has been helping a Nepali family hit by a tragedy for a long time. He collects bottles to get money to send to the mother so that she can buy yarn to make clothes for sale.
Ben's mom says, "It's been a great project for them (his sister and him) because not only are they helping Phurbu's family, but they are learning to recycle. Thrangu Monastery in Richmond, BC, opened officially on July 25, 2010, to great fanfare. Many hundreds of people came out for the ceremony including Canadian senators, mayors, members of parliament and monks and nuns from all over the world. The building is a magnificent large monastery which will house monks and lamas to teach Buddhism, Tibetan and traditional art and lead pujas.
