Thanks to the kindness of Riza and Lyle in Vancouver, two young women from SMD Boarding School and Thrangu Tara Abbey are getting Primary Montessori Training (ages 3-6). Nanumaya Shrestha and Ani Thinley Chokyi study Montessori training at the Navadisha Montessori Foundation in Chennai, India. Nanumaya with SMD kids Ani Thinley Chokyi (left) with Jess, another student from Chicago Ani Thinley writes (October 30, 2011): Here in India me and Nanu are sharing same room at the hostel. Our Institute name is Navadisha Montessori Institute. About training, trainers gives us lectures and we have to write essays on topics, we have to summit five folders, where there we have to summit small writes up, presentations on different topics, etc. we even go for the children observations at schools. From upcoming week we are going for teaching practices at schools where we have to show our presentations towards children etc. We will write again later. Love Ani Thinley..!!
Future Plans? Maybe this education model can proceed to the Elementary Level. If the funding were in place, SMD students would be able to continue their education at an institute to get Montessori training for teaching ages 6-12. This philosophy blends very well with Buddhist philosophy developing awareness in "the care of the person, the environment, and the traditional manners and courtesy. This area of learning forms the basis of a Montessori education; It helps children to develop awareness of others, responsibility, critical thinking, logic, concentration, independence, and respect for self, others and the world."
